Authentic Leadership, Real Impact

What the first Novya Leadership Lab Gave Association Leaders

In high-pressure environments, it is tempting for leaders to focus exclusively on tactics and crises. Yet the leadership that sustains organisations over time starts somewhere else: with a clear understanding of who you are as a leader, what you stand for, and how you show up under pressure. Authentic leadership is not a “soft” extra; it is the foundation that allows you to navigate complexity with integrity and confidence.

Authentic leadership is one of the main objectives of the Novya Leadership Lab. Early in the programme, participants step back from the constant demands of their role to explore their values, strengths and leadership identity. They work through situations where those values are tested: a challenging board discussion, a tough staff conversation, a conflicting set of stakeholder expectations. The aim is not perfection; it is alignment between what matters most to you and the way you lead in practice.

Through peer exchange and guided reflection, leaders begin to see patterns: where they are at their best, where they compromise too quickly, and where old habits may be holding them back. They experiment with new ways of communicating, setting boundaries and making decisions. This work is both personal and practical. It is about showing up more consistently, even when the context is challenging.

“(The Novya Leadership Lab) creates a charming atmosphere,” one attendee of the first edition said. “It’s a small group that allows for exchange without judgment.”

For many, the impact is felt immediately: clearer messages to staff, more focused conversations with the board, greater confidence in taking a stance with external stakeholders. Over time, authentic leadership becomes a stabilising force. It helps leaders steer through rapid change without losing sight of their own compass – and that, in turn, builds trust across their organisation.

The Leadership Lab offers a rare opportunity to invest deeply in this dimension of leadership, in a confidential and supportive setting, with peers who face similar pressures.
